3.86

舉：「大梅聞鼯鼠鳥聲謂眾云：『即此物，非他物，汝善護持，吾當逝矣。』」師云：「者漢生前莽鹵，死後顢頇。即此物，非他物，是何物？還有分付處也無？有般漢不解截斷大梅脚跟，只管道貪程太速。」

He cited: "Damei, hearing the cry of a flying squirrel, said to the assembly, 'It is just this thing, not anything else. Maintain it well; I am about to pass away.'" The Master said, "This fellow was reckless in life and muddled in death. 'It is just this thing, not anything else'—what thing is it? Is there anywhere to entrust it? There are some fellows who do not understand how to cut off Damei's heels, and only keep saying that he was in too great a hurry on his journey."
