3.90

舉：「雪峯一日見獼猴乃云：『者獼猴各各背一面古鏡。』三聖便問：『歷劫無名，何以彰為古鏡？』峯云：『瑕生也。』聖云：『一千五百人善知識，話頭也不識。』峯云：『老僧住持事煩。』」師云：「好與二十棒，者棒放過也好，免見將錯就錯。」

He cited: "One day Xuefeng saw a macaque and said, 'Each of these macaques carries an ancient mirror on its back.' Sansheng then asked, 'Nameless through kalpas of time, why manifest it as an ancient mirror?' Feng said, 'A flaw has appeared.' Sheng said, 'A good friend to fifteen hundred people, yet you do not even recognize the turning-phrase.' Feng said, 'This old monk's administrative duties as abbot are vexing.'" The Master said, "He deserves twenty blows of the stick! Letting this stick go is also fine, to avoid compounding error upon error."
