或云：「黃連未是苦，黃蘗好為隣。」復問：「還辯得這時節麼？」僧云：「不會。」自代云：「抑已而已。」

Or he would say: "Coptis is not yet bitter; Phellodendron makes a good neighbour." He further asked: "Can you discern this season?" A monk said: "I do not understand." Speaking on his own behalf, he said: "Simply repressing oneself, that is all."
