4.57

上堂云：「遠則照近則明，儞會也，笠子拄杖拈放一邊，入水見長人，作麼生辯？」代云：「平出。」

Ascending the hall, he said: "Illuminating the distant, clarifying the near. If you understand, set aside bamboo hat and staff; stepping into the water and seeing a tall man, how do you distinguish him?" On [their] behalf he said: "Coming out even."
