4.84

師一日同三五僧看種田，師云：「靈苗無根，作麼生種？」僧云：「明年更有新條在。」師云：「儞問我，我與儞道。」僧便問，師云：「分付田舍奴。」

One day the master was watching the fields being planted together with three or five monks. The master said: "The numinous sprouts have no roots; how do you plant them?" A monk said: "Next year there will be fresh shoots again." The master said: "Ask me, and I will tell you." The monk then asked. The master said: "Entrust it to the rustic field hand."
