[The Master] cited: "Yunmen asked a monk from Silla, 'Where are you from?' The monk said, 'A man of Silla.' Yunmen said, 'What did you cross the sea with?' The monk said, 'The grass-bandits have suffered a great defeat.' Yunmen said, 'Why are you in my hands?' The monk said, 'Precisely so.' Yunmen said, 'You may leap and caper as you please.'" The Master said, "The old fellow Yunmen had a dragon's head and a snake's tail; he let this monk off. Why? 'In my hands'—'precisely so' should have been met with a strike right across the spine!"
