16.41

舉：「大溈示眾云：『今時人只得大機，不得大用。』仰山舉此語似塔主，塔主踏翻凳子，溈山聞得呵呵大笑。」師云：「須知大機中有大用，大用中有大機，且道：雙放雙收時如何？剎竿頭上仰蓮心。」

[The Master] cited: "Dawei addressed the assembly, saying: 'People of today only attain great potential, not great function.' Yangshan related these words to the Stūpa Master; the Stūpa Master kicked over the bench. Weishan heard of this and roared with laughter." The Master said: "One must know that within great potential there is great function, and within great function there is great potential. Tell me: when both releasing and withholding together, how is it? The upturned lotus heart atop the temple banner pole."
