18.22

舉：「道吾問雲巖：『脫却殼漏子，向什麼處相見去？』巖云：『向不生不滅處相見。』」師拈云：「太周遮生。」「道吾云：『何不道非不生不滅處相見？』」師拈云：「太孤峻生。大凡善知識，舉一語垂一機，要明生死根源，令一切人明心見性去，豈不快哉。或有問道林：『脫却殼漏子向什麼處相見？』只對他道：『何處不逢渠。』」

He cited: "Daowu asked Yunyan, 'When we shed this skin bag, where shall we meet?' Yunyan said, 'We shall meet where there is neither birth nor death.'" The Master commented: "Far too circuitous!" "Daowu said, 'Why not say we shall meet where it is not neither-birth-nor-death?'" The Master commented: "Far too solitary and steep! In general, when a kalyāṇamitra brings up a single word and presents a single dynamic action, it is essential to clarify the root source of life and death, enabling everyone to understand their minds and see their natures. How exhilarating that is! If someone were to ask Daolin, 'When we shed this skin bag, where shall we meet?' I would simply say to him, 'Where does one not encounter him?'"
