18.23

舉：「修山主頌云：『欲識解脫道，諸法不相到，眼耳絕見聞，聲色鬧浩浩。』」師拈云：「聲不到耳，色不到眼，聲色交參萬法成現，且道：還踏著解脫道也無？不省這箇意，修行徒苦幸。」

He cited: "Master of the Mountain Xiu's verse says: 'If you wish to know the path of liberation, / The myriad dharmas do not reach one another. / Eyes and ears cut off seeing and hearing; / Sound and form are tumultuous and vast.'" The Master commented: "Sound does not reach the ear; form does not reach the eye. Sound and form interpenetrate, and the myriad dharmas appear completely. And tell me: has one set foot on the path of liberation or not? If you do not comprehend this meaning, your practice will be in vain and futile suffering."
