18.48

趙州象骨巖，舉世無倫擬，共撫沒絃琴，千載清人耳。古㵎寒泉，瞪目凝然，不從口入，飲者忘筌。重出語，苦又死，不答話，同彼此。相逢兩會家，打鼓弄琵琶，箇中誰是的，白鳥入蘆華。

Zhaozhou and Elephant Bone Cliff: / in all the world, without peer. / Together they strum the stringless lute, / purifying people's ears for a thousand years. / An ancient ravine, a cold spring; / staring with wide eyes, utterly still. / Not entering through the mouth: / the one who drinks forgets the snare. / Again speaking out: / bitter, and moreover dead. / Not answering questions: / the same on both sides. / Two masters meeting: / beating the drum and playing the pipa. / Right here, which one is correct? / A white bird enters the reed blossoms.
