18.51

舉：「僧問六祖：『黃梅意旨是什麼人得？』祖云：『會佛法人得。』僧云：『和尚還得也無？』祖云：『我不得。』僧云：『為什麼不得？』祖云：『我不會佛法。』」

Case: A monk asked the Sixth Patriarch, "What kind of person attains the intended meaning of Huangmei?" The Patriarch said, "A person who understands the Buddhadharma attains it." The monk said, "Does the Venerable attain it or not?" The Patriarch said, "I do not attain it." The monk said, "Why do you not attain it?" The Patriarch said, "I do not understand the Buddhadharma."
