19.83

舉：「金牛每至食時，自携飯至僧堂前，撫掌呵呵大笑云：『菩薩子！喫飯來，喫飯來。』後僧問長慶：『意旨如何？』云：『大似因齋慶贊。』僧問大光：『未審慶贊箇甚麼？』光作舞，僧禮拜，光云：『爾作麼生會？』僧亦作舞，光云：『這野狐精。』」

[Case] brought up: Whenever mealtime arrived, Jinniu would carry the rice bowl in front of the monks' hall himself, clap his hands, laugh heartily, and say: "Children of the Bodhisattva! Come eat rice, come eat rice!" Later, a monk asked Changqing: "What was the meaning?" Changqing said: "Much like rejoicing and praise because of a vegetarian feast." A monk asked Daguang: "I wonder, what was he rejoicing and praising?" Daguang danced. The monk bowed. Daguang said: "How do you understand it?" The monk also danced. Daguang said: "This wild fox spirit!"
