上堂拈香：「此一瓣香，祝巖今上皇帝聖壽無疆萬歲萬歲萬萬歲。」師乃云：「入門便見，更不容擬議尋思；開口便說，亦不復周由者也。假使善財入彌勒樓閣，尚資歛念；普眼入普賢妙境，亦借威神。只如今直得八穴七穿、四通五達，一處透千處萬處通明，一光明千光萬光普照，且到家一句作麼生道？風前有路超調御，鼓腹謳歌樂太平。復有頌云：『本是山中人，無能唯守拙，豈謂有虛名，遠達丹鳳闕，降勅住天寧，竹輿星夜發，今朝親到來，一句無言說。』別別，金色頭陀曾漏泄。」

Ascending the hall, he offered incense: "This single piece of incense prays for the sacred lifespan of the reigning Emperor to be boundless, ten thousand years, ten thousand years, ten thousand times ten thousand years!" The Master then said: "Entering the gate, one sees it at once, brook no hesitation or deliberation; opening the mouth, one speaks it at once, no longer taking roundabout ways. Even if Sudhana enters Maitreya's tower, he still relies on gathering his thoughts; when Samantacakṣus enters Samantabhadra's marvelous realm, he also borrows spiritual power. Just now, reaching the state of being pierced through in eight places and penetrated in seven, open on all four sides and five directions, penetrating one place makes a thousand or ten thousand places bright; one illumination shines universally over a thousand or ten thousand lights. And how do you speak a phrase on arriving home? Ahead of the wind, there is a path surpassing the Tamer; patting the belly and singing songs, one delights in great peace. There is also a verse: / 'Originally a man of the mountains, / Incompetent, merely keeping to simplicity, / Who would have thought an empty name / Would reach far into the cinnabar phoenix court? / The edict descended to reside at Tianning; / The bamboo palanquin set off by night under the stars. / Arriving in person this morning, / A single phrase has no words to speak.' / Another, another! The Golden Ascetic once leaked it out."
