At an informal gathering requested by a donor, the Master said: "The entire great earth is a gate of liberation; each and every thing verifies entry into the Tathāgatagarbha of boundless kṣetra-oceans, intimately and continuously embracing all. Where it is brought up, it towers steep and high; when in function, it is clean and stark naked. It is, for example, like a mass of blazing fire—approach it, and it scorches your face; it is also like the sword Taia—cross it, and your spirit is startled and your gall trembles. If one knows of such a thing, takes responsibility for it right down to the bone and marrow, there is no need for pecking and tapping. If one still retains looking and listening, remaining stranded in skin and flesh, one must break through the diamond cage and swallow the chestnut burr. If you break through one cage, then hundreds of thousands of miriads of cages are broken through all at once; if you swallow one burr, then countless billions of burrs are swallowed all at once. This can serve as an extraordinary cause; this can manifest an exquisite sign: without sins to be confessed, the defilements of sin are wiped away; without enmities to be resolved, hostile grudges are dissolved. Manifesting all that is inconceivable and performing boundless, exquisite deeds requires only this single path of pure emptiness—no further roundabout steps are needed. Right at such a time, how do you utter the pivotal phrase? / Before sound, the vajra eye juts forth; / In the snap of a finger, eighty thousand gates are completely fulfilled." / He added in verse: / "Confessing sins cleanses defilements, / Resolving grudges unties knots; / Like the sun melting frost, / Like hot soup poured over snow. / Clouds disperse in the vast sky, / A single orb shines white and clear; / Resonating with the Way, / Melons continuously flourish upon the vine."
