The *Vimalakīrti Sūtra* states: "Based on the non-abiding root, all phenomena are established." The *Diamond Sūtra* states: "One should produce a mind that abides nowhere." An ancient worthy said: "Everything is no-mind and non-abiding." Worldly and supramundane dharmas are all without exception like this. If there were abiding, one would become rigidly stuck; how could there be adaptability? If the sun and moon abode, there would be no day and night; if the four seasons abode, the accomplishments of the year would be lost. Only because of non-abiding do they flow endlessly; therefore, one abides in having no place to abide. Thus turning the mundane into the sagely is just the wondrous function of non-making, non-action, and non-abiding, attaining great liberation amidst all existence. Having understood this meaning and seen this Way, only by practicing vigorously without weariness is one a true person of the Way.
