[The Master] cited: "Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva asked the lay practitioner Vimalakīrti: 'We have each spoken. What is the Dharma gate of non-duality spoken of by the Benevolent One?'" The Master said: "Regarding this turning word, the monastic groves have discussed it not a little: some say silence; some say a long pause; some say sitting firmly; some say no response. Yet all fail to grasp it. Truly, its sound is like thunder, universally startling all beings. The Dharma gates spoken of from antiquity to the present by former and later sages were all revealed at once within Vimalakīrti's brief moment. Tell me: right at such a moment, what can be done to see Vimalakīrti?"
