He brought up [the following case]: "When Baoshou opened the hall, Sansheng pushed forward a monk. Baoshou struck him at once. Sansheng said: 'Acting for people like this not only blinds this monk's eyes, but blinds the eyes of everyone in the entire city of Zhenzhou!' Baoshou then returned to the abbot's quarters." The Master commented: "Baoshou shoulders it with full dynamic potential, which is certainly extraordinary; yet he only attained one side. At that time, had he been adept at demonstrating Linji's Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, waiting until Sansheng said, 'Acting for people like this not only blinds this monk's eyes, but blinds the eyes of everyone in the entire city of Zhenzhou,' he would have immediately given him his fundamental lot of fodder. Why? In for a penny, in for a pound."
