Ascending the hall, he said: “When one dust mote enters proper reception, the entire great earth is silent and cold; when samādhi arises from all dust motes, the ten directions are everywhere tumultuous. Multiplying into hundreds of millions of bodies is not yet considered many; sitting upright in the empty hall was never called quiet. Right here, rolling up and unrolling, gathering and releasing, seizing and letting go, killing and giving life: with the diamond jewel sword cut off doubts; with the patch-robed monk's nostril transcend the gate of birth and death; cut off the vital ford, barring both ordinary and sage; thousands and tens of thousands cannot trap it; hundreds of thousands of realms cannot alter it. Only then can one be an emissary of the Tathāgata, universally manifesting physical bodies. But tell me, when it is just such a time, what about it? Daily functioning without mutual opposition; facing the dynamic, there is rolling up and unrolling.”
