3.11

Ascending the hall, he said: “Ten thousand dynamic functions cannot reach it, a thousand sages do not carry it along; cut off vines, overturn entangled roads. If you discern the soil from the sprout or recognize the person by their words, you still fall into the secondary dynamic. But regarding the primary dynamic, there is in truth no such thing. Tell me: upon the primary dynamic, can consideration still be applied? Can transcendent or downward be applied? Can Buddhas and Patriarchs be applied? Reaching here, you must simply be transcendent like this, cutting off the vital ford, barring both ordinary and sage. If you have not yet recognized it, inevitably a single ray of a path must be let open: toward the gate of secondary meaning, expounding words where there are no words, manifesting forms where there are no forms, directly like the moon on the fifteenth night, completely clear, solitary and round; a single room with a thousand lamps, their lights interlacing and reflecting each other, consistent from beginning to end, without deviation before or behind. This also requires someone of the same path to know, someone of the same attainment to verify. But who is the one of the same attainment and same verification? The moment a single word tallies and verifies, before awakening, it is already known.”
