At the beginning of the summer retreat, ascending the hall, he said, "Eyes hearing sounds, ears seeing forms—inconceivable! / At the tips of the hundred grasses, it is time for practical use. / Inside and out thoroughly clear, without a single thing, / Fully able to protect the people of the Dharma-age. / Auspicious days are largely the same; meeting conditions, it immediately shines. The Dharma proceeds according to the Dharma; the Dharma banner is established everywhere. There are worlds that take radiance as Buddha-work, worlds that take sound as Buddha-work, worlds that take fragrant food as Buddha-work, worlds that take adornments as Buddha-work, and worlds that take silence as Buddha-work. Now tell me, what does Yunju take as Buddha-work? Sparing no eyebrows, I bring it out for you all. Walking, standing, sitting, lying down, moving, shifting, acting, and doing; the myriad phenomena embracing inner and outer; not a single dharma that is not complete, not a single affair that is not fulfilled. Arriving here, every move is entirely Buddha-work, but setting that aside, where is the Buddha? Do you fully understand? On the high peak, no news; / In the ocean's depths, no trace." He added, "Ninety days of time, a single pinch; / Five hundred people within the tip of a hair. / Each embraces the great trichiliocosm, / Wholly relying on his power to dwell at ease. / No bumping or colliding, cutting off tracks and traces; / Although for ten thousand miles there is not an inch of grass, / Cloud of Virtue does not descend the peak of Mount Wonderful High."
