Ascending the hall, he said: "In the three realms there is no dharma—a bright moon in the frosty sky. Where can the mind be sought?—mountains are high, waters are deep. The four elements are fundamentally empty—not distinguishing east from west. Where does the Buddha abide?—heaven and earth are exposed alone. Breaking through and seeing thoroughly, one hesitates right in midway. Smashing the iron gate barrier and pulling up the rootless tree, one then sees holding the sun and moon in one's palms and carrying Sumeru on one's back, reaching out a hand to cross beyond a hundred and ten cities, turning one's body to stand alone in the ten directions of the Flower Adornment realm. Arriving here, there is no Buddha and no Patriarch; one establishes neither illumination nor function, neither provisional nor real; one employs neither staff nor shout. Right at such a moment, how is it? Relying on the wonderful agada medicine, dab it on to open the diamond true eye."
