Ascending the hall, he said: "Great assembly! After raining long without clearing, today it has cleared; heaven, earth, and the great plains radiate bright light. Walls and rubble expound the Buddha Dharma; open pillars and lanterns listen with wide eyes. Dare I ask you all: how do they hear it?" He then said: "Intimately." He added: "Old Shakya said: 'Knowing illusion is detachment—stretching the body across ten thousand miles, not creating expedients, completely manifested. Detachment from illusion is awakening—Mount Sumeru standing upside down, with no gradations, a thorn growing out of the eye.' If suddenly the whole earth were gathered up into the size of a grain of millet, how would you know it? The fan leaps up to the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven—how would you be awake to it? Right at such a moment, do you understand? In the ocean of lands in the ten directions, the diamond seat; within the furnace of myriad smelts, the iron caltrop."
