Residing at Yunju Zhenru Chan Cloister in Nankang Military Prefecture, sending off the fundraising monks, [the master] ascended the hall and said, "Fire does not wait for the sun to be hot—their natures are of the same kind; wind does not wait for the moon to be cool—their qi combines together. A single tree does not make a forest; a single thread does not make a cord. Constructing a great mansion is not within the power of a single timber; crossing a mighty river is not by the strength of a single oar. Therefore it is said: Many hairs make a ball; gathered iron makes an axe. One must have inner and outer correspond, host and guest know how to accommodate each other; then naturally qi and kinds will be identical, feathers and fur will be similar. Right at such a moment, what about it? Eighty-four thousand are not the phoenix's plumage; thirty-three people enter the tiger's cave." He further had a verse that said:
"Over thirty cloud-and-water guests, / In all quarters divide the work of transformation and vigorously practice. / The monastery's sundry affairs entirely rely upon them; / It is precisely the time for the golden-maned [lion] to exert itself."
