圜悟和尚大祥，拈香指真云：「這箇川䖃苴，自來好打鬨，鬧處便入頭，惡靜而喜動，前年今日始歸家，今日前年路不差。」乃顧示大眾云：「作麼生是不差底路？要會麼？一回飲水一回噎，一瓣栴檀一盌茶。」便燒香。

On the grand memorial anniversary of the Venerable Yuanwu, offering incense and pointing at the portrait, he said: "This Sichuan rustic originally loved to stir up a crowd; wherever it was noisy he stuck his head in, loathing quiet and delighting in movement. The year before last on this day he first returned home; today, the year before last, the road has not diverged." Thereupon he looked around and indicated to the assembly, saying: "What is the road that has not diverged? Do you want to understand? Every time you drink water you choke; a flake of sandalwood incense, a bowl of tea." Then he burned the incense.
