上堂，拈拄杖卓一下，喝一喝云：「幸自可憐生，特地胡打亂喝，作甚麼？」擲下云：「冷處著把火。」

Ascending the hall, he picked up the staff, struck once, gave a shout, and said: "It was fine and pitiable as it was—why go out of one's way to strike wildly and shout recklessly?" Throwing it down, he said: "Set a fire in a cold place."
