雲門大師拈起拄杖，舉：「教云：『凡夫實謂之有，二乘析謂之無，緣覺謂之幻有，菩薩當體即空。』」乃云：「衲僧見拄杖，但喚作拄杖，行但行，坐但坐，總不得動著。」頌云：

Great Master Yunmen held up his staff and cited: 'The teachings say, "Ordinary people deem it real existence; the Two Vehicles analyze it as nonexistence; pratyekabuddhas deem it illusory existence; bodhisattvas realize its very substance is empty."' He then said, 'When a patch-robed monk sees a staff, he just calls it a staff. When walking he just walks; when sitting he just sits—he must not stir at all.' A verse says:
