快活居士，結菴於南嶽之陽，以小名之，蓋取石頭和尚菴雖小含法界之義。居士欲予書其牓，因說是偈：
Layman Kuaihuo built a hermitage on the sunny side of Nanyue and named it 'Small', taking the meaning from Venerable Shitou that although the hermitage is small, it contains the dharmadhātu. The layman wished for me to write its signboard, so I spoke this verse:
