The Buddha is a person of no business. Living in the world for forty-nine years, in accord with the capacities of sentient beings, he gave medicine in response to diseases, expedient and real, sudden and gradual, partial and full, biased and complete, expounding the entire Great Canon of teachings, which are all dharmas of no business. From beginningless time, sentient beings have been turned around by mind, intellect, and consciousness; while turning around, they are entirely unaware. Therefore, in the Prajñā assembly, the Buddha spoke of the empty mark of all dharmas, stating that the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, and form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas, are all empty, having mere names and nothing more. Reaching the ultimate point, names are also empty, and emptiness also cannot be attained. If a person inherently possesses good roots and seed nature, he merely puts to death mind, intellect, and consciousness right at the point where nothing can be attained. Only then does he know that old Śākyamuni's statement: 'From the beginning at the Deer Park to the end at the Hiraṇyavatī River, between these two, I never spoke a single word,' is true speech.
