2.14

上堂：「月生一，鐵輪天子寰中勅；月生二，豐干騎虎入鬧市；月生三，蟭螟眼裏巨鼇翻。」驀拈拄杖云：「莫有同生同死底麼？出來與徑山拄杖子相見。」良久云：「見義不為，何勇之有？」擲下拄杖。

Ascending the hall: "When the moon is on its first day, the Iron-Wheel Emperor issues an edict throughout the realm; when the moon is on its second day, Fenggan rides a tiger into the bustling market; when the moon is on its third day, a giant sea-turtle flips within the midge's eye." Suddenly taking up his staff, he said, "Is there anyone who shares life and shares death? Come forth to meet Jingshan's staff!" After a long pause he said, "'Seeing what is right and not doing it—where is the courage in that?'" He threw down his staff.
