2.24

上堂：「古者道：『了得一，萬事畢。』今朝是九月一，諸人作麼生了？」驀拈拄杖云：「不得喚作拄杖子，便了取好。既不喚作柱杖子，作麼生了？」擲下云：「差之毫釐，失之千里。」

Ascending the hall: "An ancient said, 'Understand the One, and the ten thousand affairs are finished.' Today is the first day of the ninth month; how do all of you understand it?" Suddenly taking up his staff, he said, "You must not call it a staff, and then you had better just understand it. Since it is not called a staff, how do you understand it?" Throwing it down, he said, "'Miss it by a hair's breadth, and you lose it by a thousand miles.'"
