上堂舉：「雲門道：『既知來處，且道甚麼劫中無祖師？』自代云：『某甲今日不著便。』」師云：「雲門也是作賊人心虛。徑山即不然，既知來處，且道：甚麼劫中無祖師？不圖打草，且要蛇驚。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "Yunmen said: 'Since you know where it comes from, tell me: in which kalpa is there no patriarch?' Speaking on his own behalf, he said, 'I today am out of sorts.'" The Master said, "Yunmen, too, is a thief whose heart is timid. Jingshan is not so: since you know where it comes from, tell me, in which kalpa is there no patriarch? I do not intend to beat the grass, but just want the snake to be startled."
