Upon returning from outside the region, he ascended the high seat and cited: "Dharma Master Zhao said, 'Moving like floating clouds, resting like the valley spirit; since there is no mind toward this or that, how could there be signs of going or coming?' Mountain Master Xiu said, 'Going and going, there is really no going; on the road, act skillfully. Coming and coming, there is really no coming; on the path, do not fall into peril.'" The Master said, "What a pity these two old fellows did not live at the same time as Jingshan! If they had lived at the same time, I would have tied them into a single bundle and sent them into the Qiantang River. Why? Ancient and modern mountains and rivers, ancient and modern sun and moon, ancient and modern human relations: when it is cold, heaven and earth are universally cold; when it is hot, heaven and earth are universally hot. Going and going, coming and coming, moving and resting—what fault is there in that? If a patch-robed monk were to step forward and say, 'When Jingshan talks like this, he too should be tied into a single bundle and sent into the Qiantang River,' this mountain monk would heat up a bowl to brew tea and give it to him to drink. Why so? A great hero stroking the tiger's whiskers—how could that be improper?"
