2.45

上堂，以拂子擊禪床一下云：「摩竭提國親行此令，三世諸佛眼似鼻孔，衲僧分上成得箇甚麼邊事？莫有道得底麼？若有，四楞塌地道將一句來；若道不得，徑山自道去也。」便下座。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] struck the meditation bed once with his fly-whisk and said: "This decree was personally carried out in Magadha. The eyes of the buddhas of the three periods are like nostrils. In terms of patch-robed monks, what affair is accomplished? Is there anyone who can speak? If so, bring forth a phrase on solid ground. If you cannot speak, Jingshan will speak for himself." He then stepped down from the seat.
