上堂舉：「僧問米胡：『自古上賢，還達真正理也無？』胡云：『達。』僧云：『只如真正理，作麼生達？』胡云：『當時霍光賣假銀城與單于，契書是甚麼人做？』僧無語。」師云：「徑山當時若作這僧，即下一轉語，塞却這老漢口，且道：下甚麼語？」良久云：「若教容易得，便作等閑看。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "A monk asked Mihu, 'From ancient times, have the superior sages yet penetrated the true principle or not?' Hu said, 'They have penetrated it.' The monk said, 'As for the true principle itself, how is it penetrated?' Hu said, 'When Huo Guang sold the false silver city to the Chanyu back then, who made the contract?' The monk was speechless." The Master said, "If Jingshan had been that monk back then, I would have immediately uttered a turning phrase to stop that old fellow's mouth. Tell me, what phrase would I have uttered?" After a long pause he said, "'If made too easy to obtain, it is treated as commonplace.'"
