3.35

上堂：「聞聲悟道，見色明心。」驀拈拄杖云：「這箇是色。」卓一下云：「這箇是聲。諸人總見總聞，且那箇是明底心，那箇是悟底道？」喝一喝云：「貪他一粒米，失却半年糧。」復卓一下。

Ascending the hall: "'Hearing sounds, one awakens to the Way; seeing forms, one clarifies the mind.'" Suddenly taking up his staff, he said: "This is form." Striking once, he said: "This is sound. All of you see and hear everything; yet which is the mind that is clarified, and which is the Way that is awakened to?" He gave a shout and said: "Coveting another's single grain of rice, you lose half a year's provisions." He struck once again.
