3.49

上堂：「即念離念，覺與非覺，有心無心，若善若惡，攪成一塊，將錯就錯。」舉起拂子云：「拂子頭上一串穿却，便恁麼去，業識茫茫，無本可據，且道：業識茫茫底，與釋迦老子相去多少？」喝一喝云：「洎合錯下註脚。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master said,] "Approaching thought and departing from thought, awakening and non-awakening, having mind and having no mind, whether good or evil—churned into a single lump, taking error and following error." Raising his fly-whisk, he said, "Strung together on the tip of the fly-whisk, going along just like that, the karmic consciousness is vast and boundless, with no foundation to rely on. And tell me: between the one whose karmic consciousness is vast and boundless and old man Śākya, how much distance is there?" He gave a shout and said, "I almost added the wrong footnote!"
