上堂，僧問：「今佛放光明，助發實相義。如何是放底光明？」師云：「爾喫粥來麼？」進云：「學人已喫粥了也。」師云：「還見麼？」進云：「未審還當得也無？」師云：「元來不見。」乃云：「今佛放光明，助發實相義。」拈起拄杖云：「過去諸佛、現在諸佛、未來諸佛，盡在徑山拄杖頭上，同時放大光明，照十方法界，直得山河大地萬象森羅一時稽首，作麼生是實相義？」卓一下云：「向下文長，付在來日。」

Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "'Now the Buddha radiates light, assisting in revealing the meaning of the true mark.' What is the light that is radiated?" The Master said, "Have you eaten your gruel?" [The monk] advanced and said, "This student has already eaten gruel." The Master said, "Do you still see it?" [The monk] advanced and said, "I wonder if that still measures up or not?" The Master said, "It turns out you do not see it." He then said, "'Now the Buddha radiates light, assisting in revealing the meaning of the true mark.'" Holding up his staff, he said, "The buddhas of the past, the buddhas of the present, and the buddhas of the future are all on the tip of Jingshan's staff, simultaneously radiating great light, illuminating the dharmadhātu of the ten directions, causing the mountains, rivers, the great earth, and the myriad dense phenomena all to bow their heads at once. What is the meaning of the true mark?" Striking [the floor] once, he said, "The text that follows is lengthy; it is deferred until tomorrow."
