4.43

上堂，舉：「道吾示眾云：『高不在絕頂，富不在福嚴，樂不在天堂，苦不在地獄，相識滿天下，知心能幾人。』」師云：「徑山即不然，高在絕頂，富在福嚴，樂在天堂，苦在地獄，誰知席帽下，元是昔愁人。」

Ascending the high seat, [the Master] cited: "Daowu instructed the assembly, saying, 'Height is not at the absolute peak; wealth is not at Fuyan; joy is not in heaven; suffering is not in hell. Acquaintances fill the whole realm, but how many know one's heart?'" The Master said, "For Jingshan it is not so: height is at the absolute peak; wealth is at Fuyan; joy is in heaven; suffering is in hell. Who knew that under the woven hat was originally the man of former sorrows?"
