5.36

為佛智裕和尚遷塔，以手指穴云：「妙喜與師兄俱是圜悟子，妙喜移住徑山，師兄遷來在此，雖與師兄同條生，不與師兄同條死，八兩與半斤，青紅對碧紫。正當恁麼時，且歸根得旨一句作麼生道？」良久云：「師兄解唱泥牛吼，師弟寧忘木馬嘶，豁開頂上活人眼，鄮山山下是真歸。」

For the relocation of the stūpa of Reverend Fozhi Yu, the Master pointed at the crypt with his finger and said: "Miaoxi and his elder Dharma brother were both sons of Yuanwu. Miaoxi moved to reside at Jingshan; my elder Dharma brother has relocated to be here. Though born of the same branch as my elder Dharma brother, I shall not die on the same branch as my elder Dharma brother. Eight ounces and half a pound; blue and red against green and purple. Right at such a time, tell me: how do you speak the phrase of returning to the root and attaining the principle?" After a long pause, he said, "My elder Dharma brother could sing the mud ox's roar; how could his younger Dharma brother forget the wooden horse's neigh? Open wide the living person's eye atop the crown: beneath Mount Mao is the true return."
