6.4

入院上堂：「古人道：『去去實不去，途中好善為，來來實不來，路上莫虧危。』敢問大眾：既不去善為箇甚麼，既不來有甚麼虧危？妙喜離徑山十八年，今日歸來，亦不見有善為，亦不見有虧危，三門依舊向南開，為甚麼如此？」良久云：「而今四海清如鏡，行人莫與路為讎。」

Ascending the hall upon entering the monastery: "An ancient said: 'Going, going, one does not truly go; on the road, act well. Coming, coming, one does not truly come; on the way, do not fall into danger.' I venture to ask the assembly: since one does not go, what is acting well? Since one does not come, what danger is there? Miaoxi left Jingshan eighteen years ago; returning today, I do not see any acting well, nor do I see any danger. The triple gate still opens to the south as before. Why is it so?" After a long pause, he said, "Now the four seas are clear as a mirror; let travelers not make an enemy of the road."
