7.39

示眾，舉：「南嶽和尚遣僧問馬祖云：『作麼生？』祖云：『自從胡亂後，三十年不曾少鹽醬。』」師云：「雲門即不然，夜夢不祥，書門大吉。」

Instructing the assembly, he cited: "Venerable Nanyue sent a monk to ask Mazu, 'How is it?' Mazu said, 'Ever since the reckless rebellion, for thirty years I have not lacked salt and sauce.'"
The Master said, "Yunmen would not act like this. An inauspicious dream at night; write on the gate 'Great Good Fortune.'"
