8.24

示眾，舉：「僧問趙州：『四山相逼時如何？』州云：『無路是趙州。』」師云：「無路是趙州，老將足機籌，關南并塞北，當下一時收。」

Instructing the assembly, he cited: "A monk asked Zhaozhou, 'When the four mountains close in, what then?' Zhaozhou said, 'No way out is Zhaozhou.'" The Master said: / "'No way out is Zhaozhou'— / The veteran general has ample stratagems. / South of the passes and north of the border, / In an instant, all are gathered at once."
