8.23

示眾，舉：「雲門云：『百草頭上道將一句來。』眾無語，自代云：『俱。』圜悟老師云：『劄。』」師云：「普。」復云：「俱劄普，日輪午，李將軍，射石虎，雖然透過那邊，枉發千鈞之弩。」

Instructing the assembly, he cited: "Yunmen said, 'Say a phrase on the tips of the hundred grasses.' The assembly was silent. He spoke on their behalf, saying, 'All.' Old Master Yuanwu said, 'Stab!'" The Master said, "Pervasive." He further said: / "All, Stab, Pervasive— / The sun's disc is at noon. / General Li shot the stone tiger; / Though piercing through to the other side, / In vain was loosed the bow of a thousand jun."
