8.45

示眾，舉：「古德云：『佛法也大有，只是舌頭短。』」師云：「向道莫行山下路，果聞猿叫斷腸聲。」

Instructing the assembly, he brought up [the following]: "An ancient worthy said, 'There is indeed plenty of the Buddhadharma, but the tongue is short.'" The Master said, "'I warned you not to take the road beneath the mountain; / in the end you heard the gibbon's cry that breaks the heart.'"
