9.14

師問僧：「巖頭纔跨德山門便問：『是凡是聖？』德山便喝，巖頭禮拜，意作麼生？」僧云：「好箇消息。」師云：「那裏是好處？」僧便喝，師云：「爾這一喝，未有主在。」出去。

The Master asked a monk, "As soon as Yantou crossed Deshan's threshold, he asked: 'Is it ordinary or holy?' Deshan gave a shout, and Yantou bowed. What is the meaning of this?" The monk said, "Fine news indeed." The Master said, "Where is the good point?" The monk gave a shout. The Master said, "In this shout of yours, there is as yet no host." He went out.
