9.15

問僧：「不是心，不是佛，不是物，爾作麼生會？」僧云：「領。」師云：「領爾屋裏七代先靈。」僧便喝，師云：「適來領而今喝，干他不是心不是佛不是物甚麼事？」僧無語，師便打出。

He asked a monk, "'It is not mind, it is not buddha, it is not a thing'—how do you understand this?" The monk said, "I receive it." The Master said, "Receive the spirits of the seven generations of ancestors in your house!" The monk gave a shout. The Master said, "Just now you received it, and now you shout; what business does that have with 'it is not mind, it is not buddha, it is not a thing'?" The monk was speechless. The Master struck him and drove him out.
