Ascending the high seat on the great auspicious sacrifice (two-year memorial) for Emperor Huizong, having offered incense, he took his seat and said: "'The body receives birth from within the formless, / Just like various forms produced by illusion; / An illusory person's mind and consciousness are originally non-existent; / Sins and blessings are both empty, having no place to abide.' From ancient times, the sages without exception have brought sentient beings to completion from the place of non-abiding. From the place of non-abiding they manifested descending the spirit and dwelling in the womb for ten months; from the place of non-abiding they manifested taking birth; from the place of non-abiding they manifested walking seven steps; from the place of non-abiding they manifested residing in the royal palace; from the place of non-abiding they manifested leaving the household; from the place of non-abiding they manifested practising the bodhisattva conduct; from the place of non-abiding they manifested sitting under the Bodhi tree and realising equal and perfect awakening; from the place of non-abiding they manifested subduing Māra's army; from the place of non-abiding they manifested sitting in the bodhimaṇḍa, turning the Dharma wheel, and saving sentient beings; from the place of non-abiding they manifested conferring on bodhisattvas the prediction of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi; from the place of non-abiding, having completed the buddha-work, they manifested entering parinirvāṇa." Addressing the assembly, he said, "Since the past sages manifested like this, today the subject-monk Zonggao also preaches the Dharma like this. Solely using such Dharma, I respectfully adorn the celestial carriage of Emperor Huizong, Sage of Literary Arts, Benevolent and Virtuous, Manifestly Filial, and Empress Xiansu, humbly praying that without abiding in their own nature, they manifest universally among the dusts, their firm and secret bodies identical to those superior beings, dwelling in the ocean of inconceivable liberation." He stepped down from the seat.
