Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: "One day, as the World-Honoured One was walking with Ānanda, he saw a stūpa temple. The World-Honoured One paid homage. Ānanda asked, saying, 'Whose stūpa temple is this?' The World-Honoured One said, 'It is the stūpa temple of the past buddhas.' Ānanda said, 'Whose disciple was [he]?' The World-Honoured One said, 'He is my disciple.' Ānanda said, 'It should indeed be so.'" The Master said, "Ānanda's 'It should indeed be so' was fine enough, but what could be done about the fact that one move was missing in between? If one wants to make the conversation complete, when the World-Honoured One says, 'He is my disciple,' one should immediately say to him: 'You must further make three prostrations to me to get it right.' If the World-Honoured One asks, 'Why do you have me pay homage to you?' then say to him: 'It should indeed be so.'"
