Suddenly picking up his staff, he said, "If you call this a staff, you squeeze your eyes and produce flowers. If you do not call it a staff, you break up the family and ruin the household. Ultimately, what is it?" Throwing it down, he said, "The blue mountains only know how to wear away past and present; when have flowing waters ever washed clean right and wrong?"
