Ascending the hall for the Bathing of the Buddha: "'Before leaving Tuṣita, he had already descended into the royal palace; before leaving his mother's womb, he had already finished delivering people'—this is the title. Queen Māyā in the Lumbinī Grove reached for an aśoka tree, and from her right flank Prince Siddhārtha was born, whereupon nine dragons spat water to bathe his golden body, and golden lotuses sprang from the earth to support his feet—this is the introductory portion. Pointing to heaven and earth with his hands, he roared the great lion's roar: 'Above, below, and in the four cardinal and intercardinal directions, none can surpass me in honor'—this is the core teaching. Yuwang today will solely disseminate it for you." Thereupon he took up his staff, struck it once, and said: "Old Śākya has arrived!" Raising it up, he said: "'The body of the pure dharmadhātu originally has neither appearance nor disappearance; through the power of great compassionate vows, he manifests taking birth.' The four sections above are different, yet they are gathered into the preceding rubric." He threw it down and said: "Stepping down from the seat, I will go with the assembly to the hall to lecture again on the beginning of the sūtra. Ouch!"
